Elohim's kosher food: guide to healthy living for Messianis Jews

Kosher Foods

In Today's world the Law of Elohim about the healthy habits of food consumption is almost forgotten. Many don't even read it because they think it has been abolished or they said it does not apply to christians today. Even amount those who think they are still relevant do not know with certainty how to apply it to their lives. There are many health benefits to following the healthy diatery livestyle of Elohim. Most of this laws are in the chapters of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. Here are some of them:

-To examine the marks in cattle (so as to distinguish the clean from the unclean) (Lev. 11:2)
-Not to eat the flesh of unclean beasts (Lev. 11:4)
-To examine the marks in fishes (so as to distinguish the clean from the unclean (Lev. 11:9)
-Not to eat unclean fish (Lev. 11:11)
-To examine the marks in fowl, so as to distinguish the clean from the unclean (Deut. 14:11)
-Not to eat unclean fowl (Lev. 11:13)
-To examine the marks in locusts, so as to distinguish the clean from the unclean (Lev. 11:21)

Let's examine these laws in detail, an see how they apply to us today:
(Leviticus 11:2-3) "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the living things which ye may eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that may ye eat (Clean animals)".

1. Animals (flesh)
Clean Animals

Mammals That Chew the Cud and Part the Hoof:
Antelope, Bison (buffalo), Caribou, Cattle (beef, veal), Deer (venison), Elk, Gazelle, Giraffe, Goat, Hart, Ibex, Moose, Ox, Reindeer, Sheep (lamb, mutton), Tapir. The milk of these animals is also lawful.

Unclean Animals
Animals With Unclean Characteristics:
Swine, Boar, Peccary, Pig (hog, bacon, ham, lard, pork, most sausage and pepperoni), Canines, Coyote, Dog, Fox, Hyena, Jackal, Wolf, Felines, Cat, Cheetah, Leopard, Lion, Panther, Tiger, Equines, Donkey, Horse, Mule, Onager, Zebra, Armadillo, Badger, Bat,Bear, Beaver, Camel, Elephant, Gorilla, Groundhog, Hippopotamus, Kangaroo, Llama (alpaca, vicu�a), Mole, Monkey, Mouse, Muskrat, Opossum, Porcupine, Rabbit (hare), Raccoon, Rat, Rhinoceros, Skunk, Slug, nail(escargot), Squirrel, Wallaby, Weasel, Wolverine, Guinea pigs, Worm, rattlesnake and squirrel

Reptiles:
Alligator, Caiman, Crocodile, Lizard, Snake, Turtle.

Amphibians:
Blindworm, Frog, Newt, Salamander, Toad.

2.Fish
(Leviticus 11:10-12) "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are an abomination unto you, and they shall be an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses ye shall have in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that is an abomination unto you".

Fish With Fins and Scales (clean):
Anchovy, Barracuda, Bass, Black pomfret (or monchong), Bluefish, Bluegill, Carp, Cod, Crappie, Drum, Flounder, Grouper, Grunt, Haddock, Hake, Hardhead, Herring (or alewife), Kingfish, Mackerel(or corbia), Mahimahi (or dorado, dolphinfish[not to be confused with the mammal dolphin]), Minnow, Mullet, Perch (or bream), Pike (or pickerel or jack), Pollack (or pollock or Boston bluefish), Rockfish, Salmon, Sardine (or pilchard), Shad, Silver hake (or whiting), Smelt (or frost fish or ice fish), Snapper (or ebu, jobfish, lehi, onaga, opakapaka or uku), Sole, Steelhead, Sucker, Sunfish, Tarpon,Trout (or weakfish),Tuna (or ahi, aku, albacore, bonito or tombo), Turbot (except European turbot),Whitefish.

Marine Animals Without Fins and Scales (unclean):
Fish, Bullhead, Catfish, Eel, European Turbot, Marlin, Paddlefish, Shark, Stickleback, Squid, Sturgeon (includes most caviar),Swordfish, Shellfish, Abalone, Clam, Conch, Crab, Crayfish (crawfish, crawdad),Lobster,Mussel, Oyster,Scallop, Shrimp (prawn), Soft body, Cuttlefish, Jellyfish, Limpet, Octopus, Squid (calamari)

Sea mammals:
Dolphin, Otter, Porpoise, Seal, Walrus, Whale.

3.Birds
(Deuteronomy 14:11-20) "Of all clean birds ye may eat. But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the gier-eagle, and the ospray, and the glede, and the falcon, and the kite after its kind, and every raven after its kind, and the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the sea-mew, and the hawk after its kind, the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl, and the pelican, and the vulture, and the cormorant, and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. And all winged creeping things (duck, goose and swan) are unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten. Of all clean birds ye may eat".

Clean Birds
Chicken, Dove, Grouse, Guinea fowl, Partridge, Peafowl, Pheasant, Pigeon, Prairie chicken, Ptarmigan, Quail, Sagehen, Sparrow (and other songbirds), Teal, Turkey. The eggs of these birds are lawful to eat.

Unclean Birds of Prey, Scavengers and Others:
Albatross, Bittern, Buzzard, Condor, Coot, Cormorant, Crane, Crow, Cuckoo, Eagle, Flamingo, Grebe, Grosbeak, Gull, Hawk, Heron, Kite, Lapwing, Loon, Magpie, Osprey, Ostrich, Owl, Parrot, Pelican, Penguin, Plover, Rail, Raven, Roadrunner, Sandpiper, Seagull, Stork, Swallow, Swift, Vulture, Water hen, Woodpecker.

4.Insects
(Leviticus 11:22-23) "Even these of them ye may eat: the locust after its kind, and the bald locust after its kind, and the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind. But all winged creeping things, which have four feet, are an abomination unto you".

Clean Insects:Types of locusts that may include crickets and grasshoppers

Unclean insects: All insects except some in the locust family

5.Vegetation
(Genesis 1:29-30) "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food: and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so".

Clean vegetation:Not every "herb" bears seed, and not every tree bears fruit. Most of the vegetation we ate everyday is clean.

Unclean vegetation:
Mushrooms (they don't photosynthesize), Seaweed and Algae.

6.Blood
(Leviticus 17:14) "For as to the life of all flesh, the blood thereof is all one with the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh; for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off".
(Genesis 9:4 "But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat".
(Leviticus 22:8) "That which dieth of itself, or is torn of beasts, he shall not eat, to defile himself therewith:-I am Yahve".

Kosher meat preparation is based on washing with water several times and then using salt to "suck" the remaining blood for several hours. Make a real attempt to get as much as the blood out as possible. Then when you cooked it put some herbs and spicies to give it flavor.

7.Fat
(Leviticus 7:23) "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no fat, of ox, or sheep, or goat".
In todays society we love to eat juicy steaks with lots of fat, knowing that it is not good for human consuption. That�s why we have so much problems with heart disease and clogged arteries. The beautiful hamburgers we are accustomed to eat are 30% or more clogged with fat. Also, kidneys, tongue, and skin, should be thrown away, because of their fat content.

If we love Elohim we follow His food laws, then we will enjoy health benefits, and longer life. Even if you do not follow His advice, it will still be good for you.

Why we use Hebrew names here

Messianic Jews - Nazarene love Elohim and use the original names of the Tanakh - Hebrew Bible in their daily prayers and in their congregations. The words "Jesus" and "Jehova" are not the original names that appear in the Tanakh - Hebrew Bible or the Greek New Testament.
