In Mark 16:17-18 says:
"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
Yeshua is not saying that ALL THAT BELIEVE (Born Again) shall have these signs. Speaking in tongues is a manifestation of something that happens in SOME people, but not in ALL people. If you do not manifest these gift of the spirit it does not mean you are not a beliver, since the Spirit of Elohim gives the gifts as He pleases.
Paul talks about tongues in 1 Corinthians 14:18 " I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: and 1 Corinthians 14:39 forbid not to speak with tongues".
Tongues is the most misunderstood of all spiritual gifts: it is a supernatural utterance that manifests in us through the Holy Spirit as a spiritual language. It is available to each one of us, but not everyone receives it. But it is not a real language, it does not come with the infilling of the Holy Spirit and you do not have to learned it. It edifieth the person who uses it, but not necessarily the congregation. Sometimes helps the unbeliever to magnify the Eternal.
Lets understand tongues from Paul's own words, an his warning about its missused in 1 Corinthians chapter 14: (Please read it carefully and follow my notes on the margins).
Corinthians I 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. (Paul prefers prophesy, because edify the congregation)
Corinthians I 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto Elohim: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.(Definition)
Corinthians I 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
Corinthians I 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the congregation. (Tongues is a personal gift, prophesy helps the whole congregation)
Corinthians I 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the congregation may receive edifying. (if there is interpretation then tongues is usefull for the whole congregation)
Corinthians I 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? (He makes his point)
Corinthians I 14:7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
Corinthians I 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
Corinthians I 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
Corinthians I 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
Corinthians I 14:11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. (If nobody unsdertands the tongues it is only good in a personal level)
Corinthians I 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
Corinthians I 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
Corinthians I 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. (So tongues is praying in the spirit)
Corinthians I 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
Corinthians I 14:16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
Corinthians I 14:17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
Corinthians I 14:18 I thank my Elohim, I speak with tongues more than ye all: (See Paul speakes in tongues, but he recommends to cut it a little)
Corinthians I 14:19 Yet in the congregation I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
Corinthians I 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
Corinthians I 14:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
Corinthians I 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. (Paul just explained the difference of focus of tongues and prophesy. Tongues is a sign good for the unbelievers)
Corinthians I 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? (good point)
Corinthians I 14:24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
Corinthians I 14:25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship Elohim, and report that Elohim is in you of a truth.
Corinthians I 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
Corinthians I 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
Corinthians I 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the congregation; and let him speak to himself, and to Elohim. (In these 3 verses Paul puts tongues in its proper place in the church)
Corinthians I 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Corinthians I 14:30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
Corinthians I 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
Corinthians I 14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
Corinthians I 14:33 For Elohim is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all congregations of the saints. (there is never confusion in Elohim’s word)
Corinthians I 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the congregations: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
Corinthians I 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the congregation. (Fortunally, Yeshua with his behavior toward woman change this thinking, but it has taken us thousand of years to put it in practice)
Corinthians I 14:36 What? came the word of Elohim out from you? or came it unto you only?
Corinthians I 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
Corinthians I 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Corinthians I 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. (tongues are important and have their place in church)
Corinthians I 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order. (But everything should have an order)
I hope this reading has given you a clear vision of Tongues and their place in the congregation. Please do not neglect any gift that Elohim gave you:
"Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.(1 Timothy 4:14-16)
Experience speaking in tongues in your prayer life. Ask Elohim to help you with this gift, in not time you will be able to have powerfull intercesory prayer for others.

Our sole purpose in life is to love and glorify Elohim, read the Torah everyday and follow all it's commandments through the Hebrew roots of our faith
We comply with what our Lord Yeshua said in Matthew 28:20 "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" and only then you could be "persuaded in your own mind."
Therefore, "Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of an holiday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days" (Col 2:16)

Messianic Jews - Nazarene love Elohim and use the original names of the Tanakh - Hebrew Bible in their daily prayers and in their congregations. The words "Jesus" and "Jehova" are not the original names that appear in the Tanakh - Hebrew Bible or the Greek New Testament. They are transliterations that all have use for so many centuries that almost become true. The real names are Yeshua and Elohim. Read More
