What is predestination? Is it in the Torah?

Torahīs Law

This is one of the most misunderstood ideas of the Torah. Many churches have been divided because of this theme.Yet it is a biblical doctrine. The problem resides in the word itself and how we see it's definition.
What is salvation?

Let us see first what is Salvation? Salvation as it is stated in the Torah is the rescue of humans by Elohim ,through Yeshua Ha Mashiach, from sin and reconcile them to Elohim, the Creator. We are rescued or saved from the day of judgment in which all human beings born in this earth will be held accountable before Elohim: "delivers us from the wrath to come" (1 Thessalonians 1:10). Also, something crucial to remember is that Salvation is a divine work, no a human undertaking, is Mashiach who saved us.

What is predestination?

Now, based on the concept of Salvation, What is predestination?. Predestination in its easy form means that Elohim chose us before we are born who will be saved to everlasting life. The decision of salvation rest upon Him, not in us.

(John 15:16) "You did not choose Me, but I chose you...

(John 6:44) "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

(Ephesians 1:17-19) 17 that the Elohim of our Yeshua Ha Mashiach, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power

(John 6:65) And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

(John 3:27) John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.

How is this action of Elohim done?

It is done through the Grace and Mercy of Elohim alone. Grace is the unmerited favor of YHVH . It is a gift; we have nothing to do with to receive it. Because we can not willingly by ourselves seek Elohim; it is not in our nature.

(Romans 8:7-8) Because the carnal mind is enmity against Elohim: for it is not subject to the law of Elohim, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please YHVH .

(Romans 5:11) And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Yeshua Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

(1 Peter 1:2) elect according to the foreknowledge of YHVH the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Yeshua Ha Mashiach:

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of Elohim, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14)

(John 17:6) I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.

If we are predestined to come to Elohim, Can we loose our salvation?

(John 17:11-12) "Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition , that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

(John 10:26-28) But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

(Acts 13:48) Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

(Acts 2:47) Praising Elohim, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (Elohim brought them to the church)

(John 6:44) No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

(Romans 8:28-29) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love Elohim, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew

What is the scope of Elohim work in us?

Many people believe that Elohim knew in advanced who will choose Him, but that goes against what the Bible says. It was His decision and His will. Elohim is in charge both of history in general and of our lives. And at the same time He let us decide any aspect about our lives or our desires. But we are unable to come to know and serve him on our own. We are completely dependent upon his decision to save us, and on his work in our lives to transform us. The Torah teaches us that we are born sinners and are thus spiritually dead. Dead in our sins, we cannot on our own even respond to Elohim's. Even the faith we have in Him is His work.

(Ephesians 1:4-6,11-14) just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Yeshua Ha Mashiach to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

(Ephesians 2:8-10) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of Elohim, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Yeshua for good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

(Titus 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost

I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. (Romans 9:15)

Are all humanity going to be save?

God did not intended that everybody be saved, just some. And nobody can be reconciled to Elohim but through Yeshua Ha Mashiach.

(Mark 4:10-12) And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of Elohim: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

(Act 13:48) And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
br>(why not all were ordained for eternal life, but just a few?.....)

Let us finish with the words of a great preacher Charles Spurgeon as he explains his Convertion or Moment of Salvation:

When I was coming to Christ, I thought I was doing it all myself, and though I sought the Lord earnestly, I had no idea the Lord was seeking me. I do not think the young convert is at first aware of this. I can recall the very day and hour when first I received those truths in my own soul - when they were as John Bunyan says, burnt into my heart as with a hot iron; and I can recollect how I felt that I had grown all of a sudden from a babe into a man - that I had made progress in scriptural knowledge, through having found, once for all, the clue to the truth of God ... I saw that God was at the bottom of it all, and that He was the Author of my faith, and so the whole doctrine of grace opened up to me, and from that doctrine I have not departed to this day, and I desire to make this my constant confession, I ascribe my change wholly to Elohim. Daily Torah - Bible Verses

How do we apply scripture to real life as Messianic Jews - Nazarene?

Our sole purpose in life is to love and glorify Elohim, read the Torah everyday and follow all it's commandments through the Hebrew roots of our faith

We comply with what our Lord Yeshua said in Matthew 28:20 "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" and only then you could be "persuaded in your own mind."

Therefore, "Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of an holiday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days" (Col 2:16)

In these pages you will find how you and us as Messianic Jews- Nazarene following the whole Torah applying it to real life and live a successful and meaningful existence as observants of Torah, answering all our questions through it and through Yeshua the Messiah.

Why we use Hebrew names here

Messianic Jews - Nazarene love Elohim and use the original names of the Tanakh - Hebrew Bible in their daily prayers and in their congregations. The words "Jesus" and "Jehova" are not the original names that appear in the Tanakh - Hebrew Bible or the Greek New Testament. They are transliterations that all have use for so many centuries that almost become true. The real names are Yeshua and Elohim. Read More
