In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:3)
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yeshua Mashiach for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.(Acts 2:38)
But all these worketh that one and the same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Mashiach. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many.(1 Corinthians 12:11-14)
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of Elohim : (Romans 8:16)
And unites us with Mashiach crucifixion as we are risen with Him to newness of life.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Mashiach was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
The Baptism of the Spirit
Other kehilahs believe that the baptism of the Spirit is an experience different than initial salvation. They see it as a second experience that gives the person a greater spiritual power so that individual can used it to expand the reach of the gospel to other places.
What the Torah (Scriptures) says:
There is a distinction between regeneration by the Holy Spirit, the work of grace that happens as the believer received the faith to believe in Yeshua as the Son of Elohim and becomes born again or a new Messianic Jew, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit where Elohim empowers the believer for ministry.
Let’s see what the Bible says about the disciples of Yeshua in this two points:
Then said Yeshua to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: (John 20:21-22)
And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. (Luke 24:30-31)
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. (Luke 24:49) Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (Luke 24:45)
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
In all of these passages Yeshua transformed his disciples from non-believers to believers of his death and resurrection. Then He told them to wait for the power of the Holy Spirit to manifest in their lives in the day of Shavuot (Pentecost:)
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)
Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of Elohim; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Yeshua. (Romans 15:19)
As we can see the power of the Holy Ghost empowered the disciples for ministry. Lets see another example in the land of Samaria:
Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Mashiach unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city. (Acts 8:4-8)
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of Elohim , they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua .) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given (Acts 8:14-18)
This is an excelent exemple of how Philip, a disciple of Yeshua who had been at Pentecost filled with the Holy Ghost and empowered by Him, preach to the Samarians the Gospel of Yeshua. They were saved by the grace of Elohim and baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua (Acts 8:6 and 16). Later when Peter and John came to them they layed their hands on them and they received the Holy spirit. As we can see there were two different experiences of the power of the Holy Spirit in these passages.
We should also point that any gift or calling of Elohim is Irrevocable:
For the gifts and calling of Elohim are without repentance. ( Romans 11:29)
So people who are baptized with the Holy Spirit for ministry should use that empowerment to reach the unbelievers , help the kehilah and not for personal gain.
How do we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)
how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:13)
